Hi – I’m in my 30’s and live in San Diego, with three strong passions (and a fourth one that I hope to become passionate about) that I’ll primarily blog about:
1) Travel – I love exploring different cultures and ways of life, and hope to be able to experience more. Domestically, I’ve been to New York, Texas, Arizona, Washington, Nevada, Hawaii, and all over California. Internationally I’ve been to various parts of Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, the Philippines, Japan, and Thailand (where that tiger is from which I had a chance to take a walk with, which was incredibly
frightening amazing). My wish list still includes, but is not limited to, Peru, Brazil, Argentina, Easter Island, New Zealand, Switzerland, England, Spain, Iceland, Greece, Italy, Vietnam, Bali, Tahiti, and hopefully Tanzania to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro if I’m still healthy and able.
2) Running – I “found” running about ten years ago when two close family members passed away and I had a lot of soul searching to do. Running for hours and miles on end gave me an outlet to hash it all out, and because of this I have also gravitated towards running in half-marathons and marathons (well, also because I’m not fast by any means, just have a lot of endurance). I ramble about running for its physical, spiritual, and mental benefits, and because I think a lot of things I learn about running is transferable to every day life and challenges.
3) Food! – I love food – a LOT – and love looking up and concocting new recipes to make, trying out different restaurants and dives, researching its nutritional and healthful benefits, taking pictures of it (yup, I’m one of those), and trying out new things. This increased more so when I returned to eating meat about a year ago after 15 years as a pescatarian. It’s delicious, that food stuff!
4) Personal Finance – this is my aspiring passion as I am prone to living for today, so much so that I use tomorrow’s money (and the day after… and the day after that…) to do so. As a result, I find myself in some personal debt that will be my main focus for 2013 – eliminating it and saving/investing more. I have enough good sense to put a fair percentage towards my company’s retirement plan, but I’m awful at savings and spend anything in my checking account once I have my grubby little paws on it with clothes, shoes, travel, etc. (sometimes beyond my means). Now that I have an amazing partner-in-crime that I’ve been dating for almost 2 years who is definitely more frugal than me and very investment-savvy, it inspires me to be better and responsible with my money, as well.
So for 2013, my plan is to take care of #4, but still have fun with #1, #2, and #3. I’ve listed my goals and plan in the 2013 Goals page if you want to see it. Thanks for taking the time to stop by my blog!
